History

The West Tennessee Fil-Am Association was conceived by a group of young ladies, led by Helen Madrid, in the year 1998. It was originally formed as a private social group for the then small group of Filipinos in Jackson, Tennessee in order to organize and hold social events such as Christmas parties and summer picnics.

Since then, it has evolved into a more public group that often invites fellow Filipinos from neighboring cities and even states to such get-togethers. Our annual Christmas parties and fan dinners garner more people as the years go by. Because of our success, we now donate some of the money we earn to our local church, St. Mary's School. Primarily, their mission in Haiti.

"We have a lot of blessings, and this is our way of giving thanks," said Regina "Gigi" Sim, former president of the association. "It started as a group of friends wanting to get together, and the community grew over the years."
